Saying “I do” is a monumental step in a life. Amidst the feeling of romance are some hard issues that need to be addressed before tying the marital knot. Issues like finances, sexual responsibility, church participation, work schedules, are a few. A well known preacher said recently that he knew when he took his wife as his bride that she had some baggage. What he didn’t know was that she also brought with her her mother’s baggage, her mother’s mother’s baggage, her friend’s baggage, and her friend’s friend’s baggage. He didn’t mention his own baggage. It was a funny statement but it is not so funny.
Our world has become a complicated place and everyone is willing to share their opinion based on their own experiences. Some of those experiences are good and some not so good. A young woman told us how happy she was to announce her engagement to her coworkers. Instead of the congratulations she expected to get, she got frowns and words like “What do you want to ruin a good thing for?” Disheartened, she wondered if she was doing the right thing. Another young woman told us how after a minor disagreement with her husband was advised by her friend to get rid of him. “Misery loves company” is an old saying. marriagePlus believes that marriage is a good thing. Marriage is a God thing. God instituted marriage as the foundation on which our society was built. It gives us structure for the raising of our children. It gives us a life partner to share our experiences with. A real live person who we can count on as we traverse this great adventure we know as life.
